about

I think it’s safe to say that I have been around a tremendous amount of music and talent in my life. I can’t say that I’ve seen it all, but the true surprises don’t happen that often.

YouTube has been a hotbed for discovery in every genre. You don’t have to look very far to find some pretty amazing young men and women “crushing” it, but, for 99% of the time, on a deeper dive, they come up short. Sure, the fingers are blazing, the tempos are ferocious but, in the end - plain and simple - most simply lack heart. Heart, to me, is the most important ingredient for creating art.

Enter Brandon Goldberg. Heart, heart, heart, along with, of course, his blazing chops and phenomenal instincts. Brandon has this uncanny understanding of exactly what his job is. Sometimes, it’s to play ferociously but, sometimes, it’s to sink his body and soul into just one note. To me, that is what separates Brandon from all of the others.
Yes, I hear strains of all those that went before him but they, too, were influenced by what came before them. The trick is, to make it your own. At the ripe old age of only 17, Brandon plays with the maturity and sensibility of someone twice his age, and with his very own style. And with heart!!!
I can almost hear him thinking as he navigates the challenges he self-inflicts. There is no musical mountain he won’t try to climb accompanied by Ben Wolfe’s brilliantly constructed bass lines and Aaron Kimmel’s funky and always swinging drumming. On this beautiful recording, I listen to Brandon start to paint himself into a corner and then, with the greatest of ease, he slips out unscathed! He may well be one of the greatest young musicians I have ever had the privilege to be around.

Brandon is a bright light wherever he goes. He is not a musical snob and it’s so refreshing. He’s stepping into the future at light speed. And he’s only getting started. Please sit back and enjoy this collection of beautiful pieces and exquisite performances brought to you by the one and only Brandon Goldberg.
